Russia's ruling party United Russia has never participated in programs financed by USAID or its partner organizations, said UR official Alexey Klimov on Friday. Earlier the U.S. State Department announced that the United Russia party had participated in programs financed via USAID.
"It is a pity that the U.S. representatives use unchecked information in their official comments," Klimov said.
United Russia has never showed off its joint programs with American funds, though its main ideologist Sergey Markov actively worked with the National Democratic Institute, even conducted trainings for programs in Central and Eastern Europe in 1990s.
The U.S. State Department did not say exactly in which programs the United Russia party participated, however spokesman for the State Department said that "they were not linked with traditional projects for political training," but were linked with the issues of civil society and health care.
USAID has been working in Russia for twenty years, but the organization was reported cease operations in Russia last Tuesday.
