Some unknown assailants fire on the car of Tatarstan's Mufti Ildus Fayzov on Thursday, Interfax news agency reports. An hour before, Fayzov's deputy, Valilulla Yakupov, was shot dead near his house in Kazan.

"A bomb in The Mufti's car was detonated at 1 a.m. The attackers tried to shoot Fayzov," Tatarstan's head of Religious Muslim organization said.
Fayzov was injured, but survived. His deputy, however, died after being shot.

According to Interfax, Yakupov is the founder of the first Russian publishing house for Muslim literature. He was always an active writer and Islam lobbyist. Yakubov is also famous for struggling against Wahhabism in Russia, and has devoted many books to this struggle.
