Police detained the truck carrying stage equipment for today's "March of Millions" rally at Bolotnaya Square for half an hour, reports "Interfax" citing opposition leader Sergei Udaltsov.
"Half an hour ago, according to the schedule, the truck arrived near Bolotnaya Square and was not allowed entry." said Udaltsov, noting that it will take 4 hours to setup the stage. Police finally allowed the truck to enter after half an hour's delay. The Ministry of the Interior explained the delay by saying that "organizers of the event ... wanted to use equipment that was not safe." In particular, as reported on the Petrovka website, police claim the stage had "unsecured heavy iron structures, which may fall and cause injuries to rally participants."
According to Udaltsov, police were acting under "false pretenses."
Udaltsov announced that due to delays getting the truck to the square, the start of the meeting may be postponed by half an hour. According him, "At the edges of the square people are already amassing, but aren't allowed in."
This week, the Moscow Mayor's office agreed to a rally and a "March of Millions." The opposition gathered at 15.00 on Kaluzhkaya Square and at 16:00 the march will begin along Yakimanka and end with a, slightly delayed, rally on Bolotnaya Square.
