On Wednesday the Moscow newspaper Sobesednik reported that Dmitry Medvedev's cat named Dorofey had mysteriously disappeared. They said the police were searching to for the first cat near the president's residence in the Moscow region.

The rumor, which was later denied by the police, exploded on the Russian web, #Dorofey became one of the world leading Twitter trends. Some Twitter users suggested that the cat "escaped to Holland", others said he "protested against Medvedev". One user even suggested Dorofey was holding talks to Barack Obama.

The rumor sparked so much laughter and jokes that Dmitry Medvedev himself had to deny it. He wrote on his Twitter account that the cat was not lost.
