Russia's largest social network, Vkontakte, has announced a competition to create their iPhone app, with a potential budget of 5 mln rubles.
"We want to create a 'messenger' app, a light version on a program that can exchange messages, photos and videos... You could say it will work like Skype, but without the possibility to make phone calls," said Vkontakte press secretary Vladislav Tsypukhin.
According to him, the social network wants "to simplify communication for its users and increase the volume of messages."
"The idea is that they [the users] would use our light app instead of 3rd party alternatives, so messages would go only through our network," he added.
He mentioned that Vkontakte is ready to spend 5 mln rubles on the project.
"We will definitely spend 5 million, however, we aren't sure exactly how yet. We have announced the competition, and will accept works until April 20. It's possible we will choose the top three winners and split the money between them. Afterwards, we'll go ahead with one program," he finished.
