The famous palace of Beloselskie – Belozerskie in Saint-Petersburg caught fire on Tuesday, RIA Novosti reported citing a city emergency officer.
According to preliminary data, the fire might have started in an air shaft.
"There is a threat that the fire might spread to the attic and the furniture," the emergency sources told RIA Novosti.
Some 15 fire fighters came to the scene.
Situated in the heart of Saint-Petersburg, on Nevsky Prospect, the palace is a famous architectural monument. It was built in 1848 by the architect Stackenschneider.
