According to authorities, in August 2009, a 32-year-old woman took out an insurance policy with Surgutneftegas bank for her two-bedroom apartment that she had purchased under a mortgage of 600 thousand rubles.
«In November and December 2011, the suspect, working with an as yet unidentified person, produced a forged medical certificate of her death.
She then went to the Public Registry Office with the Omsk region death certificate, which was then given to the insurance company," regional prosecutors said in a statement.
Surgutneftegas paid out on the insurance policy because of the forged documents. They paid the bank more than 522 thousand rubles, and also paid another 42 thousand to the suspect's brother.
As a result, the Investigative Committee has initiated criminal proceedings for large scale fraud, which is punishable with up to six years in prison.
